The Liverpool legend has become a free agent after departing Anfield at the conclusion of last season, with new Reds manager Andoni Iraola now actively searching for his successor.
After leaving the Merseyside giants, the 34-year-old winger has quickly emerged as one of the most highly sought-after players on the free-agent market. This has prompted Besiktas to make a decisive move in pursuit of a marquee addition to their squad.
Talks between the two parties have already progressed beyond preliminary discussions.
During the initial meeting, Salah’s representatives reportedly requested a net annual salary of €15 million.
Although this figure initially exceeded Besiktas’s financial limits, further negotiations have brought significant progress between both sides.
Driven by his determination to take on a new challenge in Turkey after achieving immense success in England with Liverpool, Salah has agreed to reduce his wage demands to align with the Black Eagles’ budget.
To accelerate the negotiations, Salah’s legal representative has travelled to Istanbul for direct talks with the club’s management over a potential multi-year contract.
Having recently concluded his international duties at the 2026 FIFA World Cup in North America—where he helped Egypt reach the Round of 16—Salah’s next move has been the subject of widespread speculation, with interest reportedly coming from Major League Soccer and the Saudi Pro League.
However, family considerations appear to have given Besiktas an upper hand, as reports from Turkey suggest that Salah’s family is enthusiastic about relocating to Istanbul.
Besiktas are eager to bring in a world-class wide forward to strengthen their attack and compete with rivals Galatasaray and Fenerbahce, following the recent acquisition of Leandro Trossard.
Signing a player of Salah’s stature—who amassed 257 goals and 120 assists in 442 appearances for Liverpool—would represent a powerful statement of ambition from the Black Eagles.
With transfer activity intensifying at Vodafone Park, an agreement between the parties could be finalised soon.
Salah’s agent, Ramy Abbas Issa, provided an update on the situation, saying, “We could learn very soon where Mohamed Salah will play next season.”
As the player’s legal team finalises the terms of the deal in Istanbul, Besiktas now appear poised to complete one of the most high-profile transfers in Turkish football history.
