A note from our editor, James Andrew:

My mother was never a football enthusiast, but when I was a kid, she’d always ask, “When does this football actually end? It feels like it goes on forever.” Back then, that wasn’t true – but these days, it really does feel like she had a point!

There’s barely been a pause in the action, with last summer’s Club World Cup, the Women’s Euros, a full domestic season, and then the World Cup following right after. Now, before we’ve even caught our breath, a brand new campaign begins.

The World Cup itself was the biggest ever held. Even though 104 matches across 39 days felt like a marathon, there was plenty to thrill fans in the USA, Canada, and Mexico. What happens at a World Cup often shapes domestic football in the seasons that follow. Still, while the excitement was immense, I sincerely hope we don’t see dynamic ticket pricing, hydration breaks, or inflated travel costs creep into our home game.

As every new season begins, the same questions return. Can reigning champions Arsenal launch an era of domestic dominance? Will Manchester City remain in the title race without Pep Guardiola? How will Southampton handle the aftermath of the Spygate scandal? And after their fierce National League title battle, can York and Rochdale secure a second straight promotion?

All of this and more will unfold over the coming year. Sit back and enjoy the ride.
