West Bengal's Leader of Opposition Ritabrata Banerjee took stock of the preparations for the 'Martyr's Day' rally on July 21. During this, he made a scathing attack on former Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee regarding the internal discord in Trinamool Congress and raised questions on the future of the party.
Kolkata (West Bengal) [भारत]July 17 (ANI): West Bengal Leader of Opposition (LoP) Ritabrata Banerjee on Friday inspected the preparations for the 'Martyrs' Day' rally to be held on July 21. Along with this, he also made a scathing attack on former Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee regarding the ongoing internal strife within Trinamool Congress (TMC).
Speaking to ANI after taking stock of the venue, the Leader of Opposition said, "We came here to see the preparations, the stage and everything else. Everything is almost finalized. People will come in large numbers... The administration will have to ensure everyone's safety."
Taking a dig at Mamata Banerjee's recent comment, in which she had reportedly said that those who want to leave the party can do so before July 21, LoP Ritabrata Banerjee questioned the future of the ruling party. He asked, "What if this becomes true and he is left with only his aunt, nephew and 5-6 managing directors?"
Mamata Banerjee's warning to rebels
Mamata Banerjee on Thursday asked the rebels who wish to leave Trinamool Congress (TMC) to do so before the Martyrs' Day rally on July 21. In a video posted on Twitter, Mamata Banerjee said that actress-turned-politician Rukmini Mallick, alias Koel Mallick, had informed the party leadership before resigning from the Rajya Sabha just months into her tenure. The TMC supremo said, "I saw an MP. I respect her. She had informed earlier through email. Today she met a BJP leader. Those who are under pressure, please take whatever decision you have to take and go wherever you want before July 21, Martyrs' Day. Our Constitution gives us the right to do what we want."
MLAs of rebel group are also excited
Ahead of the upcoming Martyrs' Day rally on July 21, rebel TMC MLA Sandipan Saha expressed confidence about the preparations for the event and people's participation. Speaking on the expected crowd, Saha told ANI, "The preparations are good. There is a lot of enthusiasm. People want to come here and contribute. There is a feeling of 21st July... people are excited."
Competition between both groups for rally at the same place
Meanwhile, amid the dispute between two factions of the Trinamool Congress (TMC), both the groups have approached the police for permission to hold their annual Martyrs' Day rally on July 21 at Victoria House in the Esplanade area of Kolkata. Trinamool MP Dola Sen of Mamata Banerjee's faction said that the 'Martyrs' Day' program has been celebrated for decades in the memory of 13 party workers who lost their lives in 1993. (ANI)
