Savannah Guthrie is setting the record straight on her latest absence from TODAY.

Every time she has stepped away from the show lately, speculations have taken over social media, with some fans wondering if it was connected to the ongoing search for her mother, Nancy, who has been missing for months. Aware of the chatter, Guthrie decided to clear things up herself.

“I am headed over to shoot ‘Wordle’ over the next few weeks,” she told viewers during the July 16 broadcast. “We are going to shoot the whole season, and we are super excited. Cannot wait for everyone to see it.”

The new project is a game show adaptation of Wordle, the wildly popular word puzzle that The New York Times has owned since 2022. Jimmy Fallon, who is producing the series and hosting The Tonight Show, could not hide his excitement about landing Guthrie for the gig.

“We were looking, we were like, ‘Who is the perfect host for this?’” Fallon said. “We need to have someone that looks like they play Wordle, someone that knows how to run a show and host it. And we did the pilot, and you are amazing.”

The show was first announced in May, though NBC has not locked in a release date just yet. It is expectedly hitting screens sometime in 2027.

As for Nancy Guthrie, her whereabouts remain unknown. Despite the months that have passed since she went missing, no new details have emerged about her disappearance or those believed to be responsible.
