Orlando Gill Drops Major Hint About His Future Amid Manchester United Interest

Manchester United transfer target Orlando Gill has spoken candidly about his future plans following his impressive displays for Paraguay at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The 26-year-old goalkeeper arrived at the global tournament as a relatively unknown name. Having joined Argentine club San Lorenzo de Almagro on loan from his hometown side CS San Lorenzo in 2023, Gill initially struggled to secure consistent playing time.

In 2025, he completed a permanent move to San Lorenzo and went on to record 29 clean sheets across 58 matches, catching the attention of Paraguay’s national team coach Gustavo Alfaro. Despite competition from Roberto Fernandez and Gaston Olveira, Alfaro opted to start Gill during the 2026 World Cup — a decision that proved inspired.

Gill endured a difficult beginning to the tournament, conceding four goals in Paraguay’s 4-1 loss to hosts USA in their Group D opener. Nonetheless, he quickly recovered and put in commanding performances, registering clean sheets in the subsequent group stage matches — a win against Turkey and a draw against Australia. These results secured Paraguay’s progression to the Round of 32, setting up a clash with Germany.

Against Die Mannschaft, Gill elevated his game to new heights, making two crucial penalty saves to help his nation triumph 5-4 in a shoot-out. His heroics earned him the Player of the Match award, representing a remarkable turnaround for a player who once sold his jersey and boots to cover his child’s medical expenses.

Paraguay’s journey ended in the Round of 16 following a narrow 1-0 defeat to France, with Les Bleus edging past them. Even in defeat, Gill once again claimed the Player of the Match accolade, further enhancing his reputation and drawing attention from clubs such as Manchester United. Following the World Cup, the goalkeeper provided an update on his next steps.

Speaking to Ole, as quoted by Sport Witness, Gill admitted he has received several offers but stressed that no decision has been made yet. He said, “Offers are arriving, but until something is concrete I’m going to keep thinking about San Lorenzo.”

He further added, “I still have a contract with San Lorenzo. If nothing official happens, my head is at San Lorenzo.”

Manchester United, who recently signed Karl Darlow, may not necessarily be in the market for another goalkeeper this summer. With Senne Lammens firmly established as the club’s No. 1 at Old Trafford, Gill could be reluctant to accept a backup role behind the Belgian.

Gill is among several breakout stars from the 2026 FIFA World Cup who have attracted interest from major European sides. His exceptional shot-stopping ability makes him a strong potential option for Manchester United should they seek more competition for Lammens.

With Altay Bayindir and Radek Vitek both expected to leave the club during the current transfer window, the Red Devils might still be tempted to pursue Gill — provided the deal aligns with their valuation.
