Hydrogen Train Uttar Pradesh: After Jind-Sonipat, when will the hydrogen train come to UP? If the train is run here, which route will be covered first? Know the details...

Hydrogen Train Possible Route in UP: After the country's first hydrogen train running on the tracks in Jind-Sonipat, Haryana, a discussion has started among the people living in UP that 'When will this train come to our place?' People are asking that if such a cheap train comes to UP, then when and where can it run first. If you also want to know the answer to this question, then let us know what is the plan of Railways and will this train come to Uttar Pradesh or not? If she comes, which route can she take?

Will hydrogen train run in UP?

Railways has not yet officially announced the name of any city in Uttar Pradesh. The first hydrogen train that has run today is only on the Jind-Sonipat route of Haryana. Till now no plan of Railways has come forward regarding UP. However, if a hydrogen train comes here in the future, one route is most likely to remain in view.

What is the plan of Railways?

Railways does not want to limit the hydrogen train to just one place. Indian Railways intends to introduce hydrogen trains in the coming years on 35 such routes in the country, where electric wires have not yet reached, that is, those which still run on diesel engines.

Is there any such route in UP, where hydrogen train can run?

There is one route in UP which can fit perfectly in this list. The name of this route is Mailani-Nanpara Rail Track, which is a historic 170 km long metre-gauge i.e. narrow gauge route connecting Lakhimpur Kheri and Bahraich districts. It passes very close to Dudhwa National Park. The special thing is that this line of North Eastern Railway has been given 'Heritage' status by Indian Railways.

Why Mailani-Nanpara route is best for hydrogen train?

This route has not been converted to broad gauge, that is, it is still running in its old form, without electrification. Meaning, running on diesel, no electric wires and having a heritage tag are the three conditions that the Railways is looking for for the hydrogen train, hence this route can be considered a strong contender for UP. On completion of 140 years of Gorakhpur Junction in 2025, a special heritage tourist train has also been run between Mailani to Dudhwa, which means that the focus of Railways is already on this route. However, no official announcement has been made yet.

Then why will UP have to wait?

Railways' approach to running hydrogen trains is step-by-step. First, data and experience will be taken from Jind-Sonipat route. How is the train performing, how much is the cost of refueling, how is the maintenance. Based on all these things the next routes will be decided. That is, it is too early to tell the timeline, but UP can also come in the list of heritage and non-electric routes.

Disclaimer: The route of UP mentioned in this article is a probabilistic analysis and not an official announcement by the Railways. No fixed route or date has been decided for UP yet. Wait for the official statement from Indian Railways for confirmation.
