New Delhi: Carlos Alcaraz is set to return to competitive tennis after a lengthy absence, having been included in the official start list for the Cincinnati Open, which will begin on August 13. The tournament is expected to mark Alcaraz’s first appearance since April, when he was ruled out due to a wrist problem.

The Spaniard sustained the injury during the Barcelona Open and missed a significant part of the season. He was ruled out of several mega events, including Roland Garros, Wimbledon, the Madrid Open, and the Italian Open. The 23-year-old would have entered those events as one of the title contenders.

World No. 1 Jannik Sinner capitalised on Alcaraz’s absence from the court and strengthened his grip at the top in men’s tennis. The Spaniard’s return comes at a crucial time of the year as players begin preparations for the US Open, which is the final Grand Slam of the season.

The tournament organisers have included Alcaraz’s name in the Cincinnati Open, but his participation in the event remains subject to medical clearance. Alcaraz won the Cincinnati Open title in Ohio last year, further improving his stellar resume, which already features multiple Grand Slam and ATP Masters 1000 titles.

Crucial test for Alcaraz ahead of US Open

The Cincinnati Masters will be a crucial opportunity for Alcaraz to regain his form before the US Open. After spending several months away from the court, the Spaniard will be eager to find his rhythm and defend his title. Alcaraz has already established himself as one of the biggest players in Sports.

He has already won seven Grand Slams and eight ATP Masters 1000 titles. Alcaraz is also one of the youngest players to complete a career Grand Slam. The Cincinnati Masters is expected to feature several big stars, including Sinner and Novak Djokovic.

The Italian arrives at the tournament in outstanding form after winning all five Masters 1000 events in the ongoing season and defending his Wimbledon title.
