Owning and driving a Lamborghini Urus often turns heads, but the kind of attention one New York driver received was far from desirable. As per the Yonkers Police Department, a 23-year-old man from the Bronx was taken into custody on July 13 after a tense confrontation involving the high-performance SUV that concluded with punctured tyres, damaged police vehicles, and an unusual request for slippers.

Law enforcement officials identified the driver as Mohammed Al Lahabi, who, according to the police, had previously evaded officers in several jurisdictions. Investigators were alerted through a license plate reader that the Lamborghini Urus had entered Yonkers and was stationed in a CVS parking lot at 132 Bronx River Road. Given the driver’s prior record of fleeing, officers decided to take preventive measures before his return.

In anticipation of a possible escape attempt, a patrol captain from the Yonkers Police Department placed a Stop Stick tyre deflation device under the Urus’s large wheels. Meanwhile, other officers strategically positioned their patrol cars around the SUV to restrict any exit routes.

Police instincts soon proved correct. Authorities reported that when officers attempted to arrest Al Lahabi, he disregarded repeated instructions to step out of the vehicle. Instead, he allegedly steered the Urus towards the officers and their vehicles. Despite the SUV’s potent engine and substantial torque, the deflated tyres and the police blockade ensured that the Lamborghini could not move far. Officers managed to detain the driver without a pursuit.

Body camera footage of the episode, later shared on social media by the department, shows the moment Al Lahabi was pulled out of the SUV and handcuffed. In the video, he can be heard asking the officers, “Can I put my slippers on please?”

Commenting on the incident, Yonkers Police Department public information officer Frank DiDomizio stated, “The vehicle involved may have drawn attention because it was a Lamborghini Urus, but our approach would have been identical regardless of the brand or model. What mattered was the driver’s behaviour. The key lesson from this situation is that trying to evade law enforcement is never worth it. We advise all drivers to follow traffic laws, comply with police instructions, and aim for a safe and peaceful resolution in any interaction with law enforcement.”

According to the Yonkers Police, Al Lahabi has been charged with first-degree reckless endangerment and second-degree assault. Authorities have indicated that further charges might be filed as the investigation progresses.
