Health Desk: Liver is one of the most important organs of the body. It performs important functions like digesting food, removing toxic substances from the body, storing energy and making many essential proteins. But poor diet, excessive alcohol consumption, obesity, viral infections and excessive use of certain medicines can affect the liver. Liver disease often does not show serious symptoms in the initial stages, but the body definitely starts giving some signals. It is important to recognize these signs in time and get them checked by a doctor.
1. Constant feeling of fatigue and weakness
If persistent fatigue, lethargy or weakness persists even after taking adequate rest, it may be a sign of affected liver function. However, it is also seen in many other diseases, so it is important to seek medical advice if such a problem persists.
2. Yellowing of skin and eyes
Yellowing of the skin or whites of the eyes can be a sign of jaundice. This happens when the level of bilirubin increases in the body. This is considered an important symptom of liver disease and in such a situation a doctor should be contacted immediately.
3. Pain or swelling in the right upper part of the abdomen
The liver is located in the right upper part of the stomach. If you feel constant pain, heaviness or swelling in this area, it could be a sign of a liver- problem. Such symptoms should not be ignored.
4. Loss of appetite and frequent nausea
If there is loss of appetite without any apparent reason, loss of interest in food or frequent nausea and vomiting, then this can also be a sign of liver problem. If such symptoms persist for a long time, it is necessary to get tested.
5. Dark colored urine and light colored stool
If the color of urine becomes darker than normal or the color of stool appears very light, it can also be a sign of a problem to the liver or biliary system. If such symptoms appear, a doctor should be consulted immediately.
