Dhaka [बांग्लादेश]July 16 (ANI): The Indira Gandhi Cultural Center (IGCC) of the Indian High Commission in Dhaka organized a musical evening to mark the death anniversary of legendary Indian playback singer Mohammed Rafi at the Indian High Commission on Thursday.

Mohammed Rafi was one of the most iconic playback singers in the history of Indian cinema, admired for his versatile voice, emotional depth and superb range. He sang thousands of songs in Hindi as well as many other Indian languages. His music included romantic tunes, devotional songs, patriotic tunes and classical compositions. Rafi worked with leading music directors and sang for many famous actors, earning him immense popularity and respect. He received many awards including the Padma Shri in 1967 and his evergreen songs still inspire singers around the world and entertain audiences.

Artists paid musical tribute

According to the press note, the event paid tribute to the timeless legacy of Mohammed Rafi, whose unique contribution to Indian music has inspired generations of artists and music lovers across the world. The evening saw Indian singer Priyamvada Banerjee and renowned Bangladeshi artist MD Rashid Uddin present a selection of Rafi's timeless songs and other classical hits. It was a harmonious tribute that reflected the shared cultural heritage of India and Bangladesh.

Kolkata-based Priyamvada Banerjee is a versatile singer, trained in Rabindra Sangeet, Nazrul Geeti, Indian classical, folk and contemporary music. He enthralled the audience with his impressive singing. Hailing from a distinguished musical family, Priyamvada has released Tagore albums and is widely admired for her deep engagement with nineteenth- and twentieth-century Bengali musical traditions and her strong cultural connect with audiences in Bangladesh.

She was also accompanied by Bangladeshi singer MD Rashid Uddin, known for his energetic performances of classical and contemporary Bengali songs. He has earned recognition for his contribution in promoting Bangladeshi music and his charming stage presence at various cultural forums.

'Rafi Sahab's songs inspire generations'

According to the press note, speaking on the occasion, High Commissioner of India Shri Dinesh Trivedi said that "Rafi Sahab's evergreen songs continue to inspire generations across the world." They also highlighted his humility, generosity and unwavering dedication to his craft as exceptional qualities of this music legend.

The event was part of IGCC's continuing commitment to promote cultural exchange and honor great music icons whose artistic legacy transcends borders and connects audiences through music. The commemoration evening was attended by eminent cultural and business personalities, media representatives, music students and music lovers. (ANI)
