‘Every citizen’s life is precious’: Delhi High Court’s big statement on Sonam Wangchuk’s hunger strike

The health of famous activist Sonam Wangchuk, who was on hunger strike at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar demanding the rights of Ladakh, has now become a matter of concern. On Thursday, a petition to his health was heard in Delhi High Court. Expressing serious concern over the health of Sonam Wangchuk, the court clearly said that “the life of every citizen is precious and the government should take all possible steps for their safety.”

Central government gave confidence to the court

During the hearing, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta appeared in the court on behalf of the Central Government. He assured the court that Sonam Wangchuk’s condition is being constantly monitored. SG said that his medical check-up is being done daily and latest information to his health is being shared regularly.

After these assurances, the court directed that daily clinical monitoring of Sonam Wangchuk’s medical condition should be done. The court also made it clear that if he needs any medical assistance based on the advice of doctors, it should be provided immediately. With these instructions the High Court disposed of the PIL.

Police patrol increased at Jantar Mantar

Delhi Police is on full alert mode regarding Sonam Wangchuk’s fast. The monsoon session of Parliament is about to begin, in view of which security arrangements have been tightened. According to reports, a call has been given to gather support at Jantar Mantar on July 20, due to which police activity has increased. In view of Sonam Wangchuk’s deteriorating health, speculations are also being made that the police may shift her to the hospital for better treatment.
