Bollywood actor Aamir Khan has strongly rejected allegations branding him the “brand ambassador of love jihad”, stating that none of his marriages involved religious conversion. The actor said his family has always embraced interfaith relationships and that every marriage was conducted legally under the Special Marriage Act through civil ceremonies.

Aamir’s remarks come days after he married his longtime friend Gauri Spratt in an intimate ceremony held at his Mumbai residence on July 5. Responding to criticism surrounding his interfaith marriages, the actor said religion has never been a factor in his personal relationships.

‘None of My Wives Converted’

Speaking in an interview, Aamir clarified that neither Reena Dutta, Kiran Rao, nor Gauri Spratt converted their religion before or after marrying him.

“The truth is that ours is a very inclusive family. Both my sisters are married to Hindus, my daughter is also married to a Hindu, and my cousin Mansoor is married to a Christian,” Aamir said.

He further added, “Neither Gauri, Kiran nor Reena converted their religion because all our marriages were civil marriages. Gauri is not even Hindu; she is Christian, and she is not even a practising Christian. Life is becoming more comical with time.”

The actor dismissed the allegations against him as baseless and said such claims ignore the reality of his family’s diverse cultural background.

A Family That Embraces Diversity

Aamir explained that interfaith marriages have been common within his family for many years.

According to him, his family members have married people from different religious backgrounds without pressure for anyone to change their faith. He said mutual respect and understanding have always been the foundation of their relationships.

The actor’s comments were aimed at countering repeated accusations made on social media following his recent marriage to Gauri Spratt.

Aamir and Gauri’s Wedding

Aamir Khan married Gauri Spratt on July 5, 2026, in a private ceremony attended by close family members and a small group of friends.

The couple have known each other for nearly 25 years, although they reconnected a little over two years ago through Aamir’s cousin, Nuzhat Khan, in Bengaluru.

Their friendship gradually developed into a relationship, and after dating for more than two years, they decided to get married.

The wedding was intentionally kept simple and private, with nearly 150 guests in attendance.

Family and Close Friends Attend Ceremony

Several members of Aamir Khan’s family attended the wedding, including his children Junaid Khan and Ira Khan, along with Ira’s husband Nupur Shikhare.

The guest list also featured several well-known personalities from business, politics and the entertainment industry, including Mukesh Ambani, Raj Thackeray, filmmaker Ashutosh Gowariker, former cricketer Irfan Pathan, comedian Vir Das, and actor Elli AvrRam.

The intimate ceremony reflected the couple’s preference for a low-key celebration rather than a grand public event.

Aamir’s Previous Marriages

Aamir Khan was first married to Reena Dutta in 1986. The couple separated in 2002 after nearly 16 years of marriage.

He later married filmmaker Kiran Rao in 2005. In 2021, the two announced their separation, stating that they would continue to co-parent their son and remain close collaborators despite ending their marriage.

Following his separation from Kiran Rao, Aamir maintained a cordial relationship with both his former spouses while continuing to focus on his family and professional commitments.

Actor Responds to Online Criticism

Aamir’s latest comments appear to be a direct response to criticism circulating on social media after news of his marriage to Gauri Spratt became public.

By highlighting that none of his wives converted their religion and that all his marriages were conducted under civil law, the actor sought to counter allegations linking his personal life with the controversial term “love jihad.”

The actor reiterated that respect for individual faith and personal choice has always been central to his family’s values, adding that religious identity has never been a condition for marriage within his family.
