Police in Bihar have arrested a woman, her lover and a suspected contract killer in connection with the fatal shooting of her husband on a moving train. Investigators claim the murder was planned to eliminate the victim, who was standing in the way of their relationship.
The accused were arrested following an investigation led by the Katihar Railway Police.
Man shot on trainThe victim, identified as Dev Kumar Gunjan, worked as a technician in the Bihar Electricity Department in Jamui district. He had married Samita Kumari in 2018, and the couple have a five-year-old daughter.
According to police, Gunjan was travelling by train near Badla Ghat in Khagaria district on 11 June when he was shot in the head. He died after suffering severe blood loss.
Investigation changes directionPolice initially suspected that the killing could have been linked to robbery or personal enmity.
However, as the investigation progressed, officers allegedly uncovered evidence pointing to a planned contract killing. The probe was supervised by Katihar Railway Superintendent of Police Harishankar Kumar.
Murder conspiracyPolice alleged that Samita Kumari, who works as a Motor Vehicle Inspector in Supaul, was in a relationship with Ajit Kumar, a government technician posted in Nalanda.
Investigators claim the pair hired Raju Kumar, also known as Dheeraj, to carry out the murder. Police said the suspect had a criminal background and had recently been released on bail in an Arms Act case.
According to investigators, the alleged killer followed Gunjan after he boarded the train and shot him at an isolated stretch during the journey.
Evidence seizedPolice said the accused admitted their involvement during questioning. Mobile phones and SIM cards allegedly used to plan the crime have been seized as part of the investigation.
The allegations and claimed confessions will be subject to further investigation and judicial proceedings. Police are continuing to examine the evidence while preparing the case for prosecution.
