There are sounds of a major organizational change in the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) very soon. Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent high-level meeting with Union Home Minister Amit Shah and party president Nitin Naveen has given further impetus to these discussions. It is believed that preparations are on for a major reshuffle in the party’s highest decision-making body, from the ‘Parliamentary Board’ to the list of national office-bearers. There is now intense discussion in the corridors of Delhi on how the Modi-Shah duo is going to give a new edge to the organizational machinery of BJP.

Nitin Naveen’s new team and signs of big changes

According to sources, BJP President Nitin Naveen may soon announce his new team. There are plans to completely re-structure the organizational bodies at the national level. Speculations of change had started since PM Modi’s meeting with top leaders on June 1, which included big faces like Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, Home Minister Amit Shah and Devendra Fadnavis. The party aims not only to strengthen the organization but also to prepare it for the upcoming challenges.

What will change? BJP’s big proposals

According to media reports, BJP is preparing to bring many revolutionary changes in its old organizational structure. Some important proposals include:

  • Reconstitution of Parliamentary Board: New members are to be appointed in the ‘Parliamentary Board’, the most powerful body of the party.
  • New role of regional in-charges: On the lines of ‘area campaigners’ of the Sangh, PM Modi, Amit Shah and Nitin Naveen can be made in-charge of different specific areas of the country.
  • Increase in the number of officials: It is proposed to increase the number of national officers from the present 45 to 60, so that the workload and scope of responsibility can be improved.

Eye on UP elections, less time, more challenges

This entire emphasis of the BJP high command is also on Uttar Pradesh, where less than a year is left for the assembly elections. Party President Nitin Naveen and the leadership are trying to create a strong and fool-proof organizational structure in UP before the elections. In this series, the formation of the pending organizational team of UP under the leadership of new state unit chief Pankaj Chaudhary has also been seriously discussed. Actually, BJP has expanded, but in view of the increasing pressure on the leadership due to lack of change in the organization, this exercise is now considered very important.
