Jaipur. A grand conclusion of the 'Legislative Glory Journey' was held on Wednesday evening at the Rajasthan Assembly, commemorating its 75 years. The event was graced by the Vice President of India, C.P. Radhakrishnan, who described it as a significant milestone in the democratic journey. He expressed that the unity displayed by representatives from both the ruling and opposition parties was heartening, inspiring, and a testament to the maturity of Indian democracy. Radhakrishnan emphasized that Rajasthan is a land of valor, sacrifice, honor, and duty. He noted that elected representatives can only earn the trust of their constituents through their actions. He highlighted that many members of the Rajasthan Assembly have worked solely for the welfare of the people, and the gathering of past and present legislators symbolizes the rich tradition of democracy.
Responsibility Towards Both House and Public
The Vice President further stated that democracy extends beyond merely winning elections; it is a continuous responsibility towards the public. Every legislator should participate in the proceedings of the house with full preparation and actively engage in the committees they are part of. He pointed out that parliamentary committees are a crucial foundation of the democratic system, facilitating in-depth discussions on policies and plans. Therefore, active participation from representatives in these committees enhances the effectiveness and accountability of democracy. He urged legislators to remain accessible to their constituents and address their issues with sensitivity. Trust from the public is the greatest asset in democracy, and it can only be strengthened through ongoing dialogue, transparency, and public service. The event marking the 75 years of the Rajasthan Assembly is a reflection of respect and continuity towards democratic traditions.
Roots of Indian Democracy in Ancient Culture
Governor Haribhai Bagde remarked that democracy in India is not a new concept; its roots are deeply embedded in our ancient culture and civilization. He noted that in ancient India, there was a tradition of collective decision-making in various republics and city-states, showcasing the historical legacy of Indian democratic consciousness. This strong foundation of Indian democracy continues to fortify the country's democratic institutions today. He cautioned that the level of discourse on social media is declining, necessitating serious consideration and necessary oversight. Preserving healthy dialogue, decorum, and moral values is essential for the strength of democracy. Democracy encompasses not only rights but also duties and decorum. The Governor emphasized the importance of respecting India's rich parliamentary traditions and history, urging representatives to uphold democratic dignity.
Inspiring Journey of 75 Years of the Assembly
Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma, during the concluding session of the Legislative Glory Journey, stated that this event is a confluence of democratic experiences, rich traditions, and values that will serve as an inspiration for future generations. Over the past 75 years, the Rajasthan Assembly has made numerous historic decisions that have shaped the state's development and welfare, promoting technology, transparency, and public participation as exemplary models for other assemblies in the country. He mentioned the special calendar and diary published to commemorate the 150th anniversary of 'Vande Mataram,' which is an innovative effort to connect cultural heritage with democratic traditions. The Chief Minister noted that past and present representatives have continuously enhanced the dignity of the house through public service, and the greatest strength of democracy lies in collaborative efforts for public welfare. He acknowledged that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has provided a new direction for Indian democracy through public participation, transparency, and accountability, and the state government is committed to good governance in this spirit. He called upon the youth to understand the Constitution, democratic institutions, and parliamentary traditions to draw inspiration from them. The event was attended by various dignitaries, including the Governor of Punjab, Gulabchand Kataria, Rajasthan's Parliamentary Affairs Minister Jogaram Patel, and Leader of the Opposition Tikaram Julie, along with numerous representatives, former and current legislators, and esteemed guests.
Moving Towards the Future Inspired by 75 Years of Achievements
Assembly Speaker Vasudev Devnani remarked that the Rajasthan Assembly was inaugurated on Chaitra Shukla Pratipada of Vikram Samvat 2006, and since then, the house has played a significant role in strengthening democratic values and making important decisions related to public interest. He stated that over the past 75 years, the assembly has continuously worked towards making legislative processes more effective, transparent, and modern, contributing significantly to creating a more just and equitable society. He emphasized that the 'Legislative Glory Journey' is not just a ceremony but a platform for ideas, experiences, and democratic values where representatives from different generations can learn from each other’s experiences.
Devnani asserted that democracy is an ongoing process that requires continuous improvement and innovation. If issues of public interest are addressed beyond party politics, comprehensive development of Rajasthan can be ensured. He highlighted innovations made in the assembly, such as digitization of work, open digital museums for the public, digitization of records from the assembly's 75 years, and the development of a herbal garden within the assembly premises as significant steps towards modernizing the assembly.
