Despite finalising the transfers of Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans, Manchester United are reportedly exploring the possibility of adding another midfielder to their squad and have identified AS Roma’s Manu Koné, aged 25, as a potential signing, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano. The Premier League club have already made contact with the French international’s representatives, the report claims.

Following France’s exit from the 2026 FIFA World Cup, focus has now shifted to Koné’s club future. The midfielder has been strongly linked with a move away from Roma, who are under pressure to generate funds through player sales during this transfer window.

Although Roma would prefer to retain Koné, manager Gian Piero Gasperini has acknowledged the financial realities facing the club. He remarked, “It is undeniable that Roma have to balance the books,” when questioned about the player’s situation. He further stated, “I hope that qualifying for the Champions League will be sufficient, but it is clear that financial balance is essential for clubs, and more clarity should emerge in the coming weeks.”

Earlier this week, La Gazzetta dello Sport reported that Manchester United were preparing an offer for the former Toulouse FC midfielder. Meanwhile, L’Équipe indicated that Arsenal are also monitoring the player. However, according to Romano, it is Manchester United who have taken the first concrete step by reaching out to Koné’s entourage. Roma are believed to value the midfielder at around €55 million.
