Ravichandran Ashwin, the former India off-spinner, responded to the rumours about the former England test team, CSK coach. The veteran expressed his heart out during a session of his YouTube show, Ash Ki Baat, with journalist Vimal Kumar.
Ashwin's name has come up again in the mix for the hottest coaching gig in town, that of England's Test post, now that McCullum has left the job. News of Stephen Fleming's departure from Chennai Super Kings has also led to conjecture that Ashwin might rejoin the franchise as a coach after hanging up his whites.
Ashwin Gives Cryptic Reply on England Coaching Role
Ashwin refused to comment on reports linking him with the England Test coaching job.
Ashwin said:
"Give it a little time. I'll tell you. Just give it some time."
Though he declined to bring forth his ideas, the ex-India spinner communicated his perceptions about the test side of England, and about the 'lesser-appointed' coach of the future.
Commenting on England's fearless method employing McCullum and Stokes, Ashwin stated that it had provided "fans with entertainment but has also resulted in losses".
"There were so many occasions when England had the game completely under control, but they ended up losing simply because they ignored common sense. You just can't afford to play Test cricket like that."
Additionally, Ashwin thought that the current pattern the England team had reached its limits and would be hard to sustain for the long term.
"It was becoming very difficult. It just wasn't sustainable anymore. The model that McCullum and Stokes followed in Test cricket had reached a point where it became very hard to continue. Joe Root is a 24-carat gold Test batter, and his contribution will be incredibly important."
He also commented that having a solid England team set up would be a positive for the future of Test cricket.

CSK Coaching Question Also Left Unanswered
In fact, towards the close of the session, questions were asked by Ashwin also regarding the reports of Chennai Super Kings ' interest in him, following the bolwall exit of Stephen Fleming.
Nevertheless, the veteran bowler refused to reply. Instead, he smiled and said goodbye to the viewers.
He said:
"I'd just like to thank everyone for joining us. Thank you so much for joining us on this episode."
Ashwin also announced that his YouTube channel will be adding a special episode to celebrate CSK's coach Stephen Fleming's contribution to CSK.
Until now, Ashwin has neither confirmed nor denied the coaching speculations making waves around England and Chennai Super Kings.
