Aamir Khan has responded to the criticism related to his marriage related to Gauri Spratt. The actor, who recently married Gauri under the Special Marriage Act, addressed the “love jihad” allegations in a recent interview. During the conversation, Aamir also revealed that Gauri is Christian, not Hindu as many had assumed. His remarks come after a fatwa objecting to the marriage was issued on religious grounds.

Aamir Khan Says Gauri Spratt Is Christian

Speaking to Deccan Chronicle, Aamir revealed that none of his wives changed their religion after marrying him. He said, “Gauri, Reena and Kiran did not change their religions when they married me, as we had civil marriages.”

The actor also clarified Gauri’s faith. “Gauri is not a Hindu, she is Christian, and not even a practising Christian at that,” he said.

Aamir further spoke about his family and said it has always been inclusive. “Well, the truth is that ours is a very inclusive family,” he said.

Sharing examples, Aamir added that both his sisters are married to Hindu men, his daughter is married to a Hindu, and his cousin Mansoor is married to a Christian.

Aamir Khan married Gauri Spratton July 5, 2026, in a private ceremony under the Special Marriage Act.

Before Gauri, the actor was married to Reena Dutta in 1986. The couple later separated.

He then married filmmaker Kiran Rao in 2005. They announced their separation in 2021 but continue to co-parent their son, Azad.

Fatwa Issued Against Aamir Khan’s Marriage

Maulana Ibrahim Hussain, the Shahi Chief Mufti of the Muslim Personal Darul Ifta, has objected to Aamir Khan’s marriage to Gauri Spratt.

According to ANI, the cleric said that under his interpretation of Islamic law, a Muslim man cannot marry a non-Muslim woman unless she embraces Islam.

He described such marriages as haraam and said Muslims who enter into them are committing a sin. He also added that those who do not acknowledge it as sinful would ultimately be answerable to Allah.

The Maulana also described such marriages as sinful and questioned the pattern of marrying, divorcing and remarrying multiple times. Referring to Aamir Khan, he said protests have already begun over the actor’s third marriage.

Aamir, however, has maintained that all three of his marriages were civil marriages and that none of his wives changed their religion.
