ICC: The International Cricket Council has made a major change regarding the format of next year’s ICC ODI World Cup 2027.

ICC: The International Cricket Council has made a major change regarding the format of next year’s ICC ODI World Cup 2027. Issuing a release, ICC said that these changes have been approved in the Annual General Meeting held in Edinburgh. 14 teams will participate in the ODI World Cup to be hosted by South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia. A ‘Super Series’ will be organized for the last 3 teams, in which the journey of two teams will end. Apart from this, there will be a total of 3 rounds to reach the finals.

In fact, the International Cricket Council made a big announcement after its annual general meeting held in Edinburgh on Wednesday, 15 July. ICC said that 14 teams will participate in the upcoming ODI World Cup. Out of these 14 teams, a round-robin super series will be played between the last 3 teams, in which the journey of two teams will end here and the winning team will qualify for the next round.

Matches will be held in round-robin format in Super-7 stage

After this, the remaining 12 teams will be divided into two groups of 6 teams each. Matches will be played in each group under round-robin format. Also, the top teams in both the groups will reach the Super-7 stage. In this round, all 7 teams will play in round-robin format, in which the top 4 teams will qualify for the semi-finals. In the semi-finals of the World Cup 2027, the first placed team will face the fourth placed team. At the same time, the teams standing second and third will face each other.

Format changed for T20 World Cup 2028 also

Apart from this, a total of 20 teams will participate in the ICC T20 World Cup 2028, in which all the teams will be divided into 5 groups. The top-2 teams of each group will qualify for Super 10. In the Super-10 group stage, the teams will be divided into two groups of 5 each, in which the matches will be held in round-robin format. The winning teams of the Super-10 group will directly qualify for the semi-finals.
