Patna. In order to modernize the urban transport system in Bihar, the state government had announced metro rail project in four major cities. With this scheme, people of Muzaffarpur, Gaya, Darbhanga and Bhagalpur are expected to get fast, safe and convenient public transport in future.

Roadmap was prepared for four cities

The state government had approved the metro project in four cities in June 2024. After this, the responsibility of survey, estimation of passenger numbers and preparation of feasibility report was handed over to RITES. The experts decided the possible routes and stations after taking suggestions from local public representatives, business organizations and common citizens and submitted the report to the Urban Development Department.

Waiting for DPR to be made

After submission of feasibility report the next important step is preparation of Detailed Project Report (DPR). On the basis of this report, the cost of the project, construction process, technical design and financial arrangements are decided. At present, no official time frame has been revealed for starting the process of preparing DPR. Until this phase is not completed, it is not considered possible to start construction work.

Proposal for two metro corridors in every city

On the basis of the survey, two metro corridors each have been proposed for the four cities.

Went An approximately 36 kilometer long network is proposed in the city, which is considered to be the largest among the four cities.

Bhagalpur A metro corridor of about 24 kilometers is proposed.

Muzaffarpur About 21.25 km long route has been prepared for this.

Darbhanga A network of about 18.8 kilometers is proposed, which will be the shortest route of this scheme.

The objective of these routes is to connect the major markets, railway stations, bus stands, educational institutions and densely populated areas of the city.

How will the project be funded?

According to the proposed plan, a part of the cost of the project will be jointly borne by the Central Government and the State Government. A plan has been made to raise the remaining amount from financial institutions. However, the final financial model will be clear only after the DPR is prepared.
