New Delhi: The Ferrari Amalfi Spider is coming to the Indian shores on July 17. It is basically the drop-top version of the entry-level Amalfi coupe. Apart from the powered open-top setup, Amalfi Spider’s design is quite like the hardtop variant and shares the same twin-turbo V8 powertrain.
The Spider version gets an electrically operated fabric soft top. The roof can be opened or closed in about 13.5 seconds while being driven at speeds of up to 60kph. Ferrari has said the soft-top has been designed to provide excellent thermal insulation and cabin refinement to make it as comfortable as the hard-top version.
Apart from this, it is the same as the standard Amalfi. It comes with sleek LED headlamps connected by a signature black trim strip. The front bumpers come with air splitters that improve aerodynamics, with massive air intakes that cool the internals. In terms of profile, the Amalfi spider has 245/35 R20 wheels at the front and 285/35 R20 at the back. It has flush-type door handles and a black side splitter.
At the back, the Amalfi Spider has slim dual LED taillamps and a sculpted diffuser housing twin exhaust outlets on either side. It comes with an active rear spoiler that automatically switches between Low Drag (LD), Medium Downforce (MD) and High Downforce (HD) settings. It depends on the car’s speed and driving dynamics for better aerodynamic performance. It gets 255 litres of boot space, and with the soft top stowed, it goes down to 172 litres.
Ferrari Amalfi interiors
Ferrari Amalfi Spider interior is similar to the standard version of the sports car
In terms of interiors, the Amalfi Spider comes with the same cabin layout as the coupe, with a 2+2 seating arrangement featuring premium leather upholstery. The dashboard gets a three-spoke steering wheel with physical controls, a 15.6-inch digital instrument cluster, a 10.25-inch central infotainment touchscreen and an additional 8.8-inch display for the front passenger.
Features on the international-spec include powered front seats, automatic climate control and wireless smartphone charging. Safety features include a Level 2 ADAS suite, a 360-degree camera system and Ferrari’s brake-by-wire technology, which is designed to provide better braking response, pedal feel, and overall stopping performance.
Ferrari Amalfi powertrainAmalfi Spider draws power from the same 3.9-litre twin-turbocharged V8 petrol engine found in the coupe. It makes 640hp and 760 Nm and is mated with an 8-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox that sends power to the rear wheels. Ferrari claims the Amalfi Spider can sprint from standstill to 100 kph in 3.3 seconds, the same as the standard version despite weighing 86kg more than the hard-top.
The extra weight, though, makes it slower at higher speeds as the Spider is 0.4 seconds slower to reach the 200 kph mark. Ferrari Amalfi is priced at Rs 5.59 crore. Since Ferrari is accepting orders at reduced prices in anticipation of the forthcoming India-EU FTA, the Amalfi Spider could be priced at about Rs 4.5 crore.
