Bhubaneswar: A Revenue Inspector (RI) in Gunupur Tehsil of Rayagada district was apprehended by Odisha Vigilance sleuths on Wednesday for allegedly taking a bribe of Rs 25,000 to submit favourable enquiry report in a mutation case.
The accused was identified as Susanta Mallick, RI of Sirijhuli Circle in Gunupur Tehsil. He was caught while taking Rs 25,000 from an applicant for submitting favourable enquiry report in a mutation case and facilitating issuance of ROR (Land Patta) of his ancestral land in his favour.
The applicant had applied online as per the rules of government in R&DM Department for the purpose and deposited requisite fees. However, Mallick was delaying the process for no reason. Instead, the accused demanded bribe of Rs 25,000. This prompted the applicant to report the matter to vigilance authorities alleging harassment by Mallick.
Following this, a team of Odisha Vigilance nabbed Mallick while taking Rs 25,000 from the complainant in his office room. The entire tainted bribe money has been recovered from the possession of accused Mallick and seized.
Following the trap, simultaneous searches are going on at three locations linked to Mallick from Disproportionate Assets angle.
In this connection, a case has been registered and investigation is in progress.
