A recent study reveals that India's data center industry is on track to require around 100,000 engineers and technical experts by the year 2030. This growth is fueled by the escalating demand for data in our increasingly digital world.

As the adoption of Artificial Intelligence (AI), cloud computing, and digital services rises, the network of data centers across India is expanding at a remarkable pace. This sector's growth is not only technological but also promises to generate numerous job opportunities for millions of young individuals. The report underscores the need for approximately 100,000 skilled professionals in the coming years, prompting an exploration of the factors driving this rapid expansion and the areas expected to experience the highest job demand.

The report from NLB Services indicates that India's data center sector could create a demand for about 100,000 skilled workers by 2030. The installed capacity of data centers is anticipated to increase from roughly 1.5 gigawatts (GW) to nearly 6.5 GW by the decade's end. Additionally, the market value of this industry is expected to surpass $22 billion. Notably, investment commitments exceeding $126 billion have already been pledged, establishing it as one of the fastest-growing infrastructure sectors in the country.

The report also warns that a significant skill gap could hinder the sector's rapid growth if a sufficient number of trained professionals are not available. Experts advocate for collaboration among educational institutions, industry leaders, and policymakers to equip the youth with the necessary skills to meet the rising demands of the data center industry.

Sachin Alug, CEO of NLB Services, emphasizes that the growth of data centers and AI infrastructure in India offers a tremendous opportunity for the youth. As digital transformation accelerates, there is an increasing need for specialists in areas such as AI infrastructure, cloud operations, automation, power systems, and critical facility management. This presents a chance to develop a workforce that will bolster India's digital economy for years to come.

The report highlights that the surge in AI adoption is significantly increasing the demand for professionals skilled in AI Infrastructure Engineering, Cloud Operations, Platform Engineering, DevOps, MLOps, and Data Center Automation. It is projected that AI workloads will constitute about 30 percent of India's total data center capacity in the near future, making knowledge of AI infrastructure a crucial skill for engineers. Furthermore, there is a growing need for various new roles related to data center physical infrastructure, including AI Infrastructure Operations Engineer, Liquid Cooling Engineer, Energy Optimization Specialist, Critical Facilities Engineer, and Power Systems Expert.
