History of Malhargarh

According to legend, King Jwala Singh built this fort on the banks of river Bra in the 12th century. The fort is considered impregnable due to its strong stone walls on all four sides and the river Betwa. Inside the fort are military barracks, artillery emplacements and a reservoir. But, due to lack of proper maintenance, some parts of this historical structure are now dilapidated.

The queen was imprisoned

An interesting story about Malhargarh is in discussion. According to this story, one day Rani Machala was playing swing in the garden with her friends. At this time, King Jwala Singh was passing by after hunting. Seeing Rani Machhala playing in the garden, Raj Jwala Singh was fascinated by her beauty and devised a plan to get her.

Use magic

It is said that the king used magical powers to get the Queen Fish. Accordingly, with the help of magical powers, he made Queen Machla disappear with her bed overnight and brought her to the palace. Jwala Singh imprisoned Rani Machhala in a water tank in Malhargarh and began to seduce her to become his queen. But the queen fish was not ready for this. The tank in which the king imprisoned her is now known as Machhala Kund.

War and the Emancipation of the Queen

When Alha and his brave brother Udal came to know about the abduction of Queen Machla, they quickly marched towards Malhargarh with their vast army. After this there was a great war between King Jwala Singh and Alha-Udal. In this battle, Alha-Udal defeated Jwala Singh and freed Rani Machhlal from captivity. It is said that the battle was so fierce that the water of Betwa river turned red after it.
