West Ham United winger Crysencio Summerville has become intrigued by the idea of joining AS Roma after hearing about the Italian club from his Netherlands team-mate Donyell Malen during the World Cup. The Dutch forward is reportedly open to making a move to the Serie A side.
The Hammers have already seen Portuguese midfielder Mateus Fernandes depart for Tottenham Hotspur in a deal worth £85 million, and more players could follow him out of the London Stadium following the club’s relegation.
Summerville, 24, enjoyed a strong World Cup campaign with the Netherlands, scoring twice and registering two assists in four appearances. His performances have attracted attention from several Premier League clubs as well as a number of teams across Europe.
Roma have been monitoring Summerville for some time, having first made contact with his representatives in May. Although Tottenham were also rumoured to be considering a move, no formal offer has been made, leaving the Italian club in a stronger position to secure his signature.
Manager Gian Piero Gasperini is said to be an admirer of Summerville’s attacking qualities. While the player’s initial financial demands placed him out of Roma’s reach, reports from Italian outlet Il Romanista indicate that his valuation has now become more manageable for the Giallorossi.
Summerville’s transfer fee is estimated at around €40 million, with annual wages under €4 million, both figures Roma are believed to be comfortable with. The winger’s growing knowledge of the club, thanks to stories shared by Malen during their time together with the Dutch national team, has only strengthened his interest in a potential move.
Roma are currently in discussions with Summerville’s representatives to finalise personal terms and must still reach an agreement with West Ham over the transfer fee. Reports suggest that the situation could be resolved ‘in the next few hours’.
Summerville remains under contract with West Ham until the summer of 2029, with the London club holding an option to extend his deal by an additional year.
