The southwest monsoon has slowed across large parts of India, resulting in below-normal rainfall in many districts and raising concerns over water availability and agricultural activity. While the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy rainfall for several states, many regions are expected to continue receiving only light to moderate showers over the coming days.

The subdued monsoon activity has also delayed kharif crop sowing in some areas, prompting authorities to closely monitor the evolving weather pattern.

Monsoon Activity Remains Weak in Many Districts

According to official weather updates, rainfall has remained below normal across hundreds of districts nationwide.

Current weather observations indicate:

• Rainfall is below the seasonal average in 372 districts.
• Around 68 districts are experiencing a significant rainfall deficit.
• Widespread rainfall is unlikely before July 20.
• Most regions are expected to receive only scattered light to moderate showers in the short term.

Meteorologists expect monsoon conditions to improve if a fresh low-pressure system develops over the Bay of Bengal during the coming days.

IMD Forecasts Heavy Rain in Several States

Despite the overall slowdown, the IMD has issued heavy rainfall warnings for several parts of the country.

States likely to receive heavy rain include:

• Arunachal Pradesh
• Assam
• Meghalaya
• Bihar
• Chhattisgarh
• Uttar Pradesh
• Himachal Pradesh
• Jharkhand
• Nagaland
• Manipur
• Mizoram
• Tripura
• Odisha
• Uttarakhand
• West Bengal
• Sikkim

The department has also warned of:

• Thunderstorms with lightning
• Strong gusty winds in isolated locations
• Adverse weather conditions over parts of East Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, and the Andaman & Nicobar Islands

Residents in affected areas have been advised to remain alert and follow local weather advisories.

Delhi-NCR Likely to See Only Light Rain

For Delhi and the National Capital Region, the weather is expected to remain relatively stable over the next few days.

The forecast includes:

• Occasional light rain or drizzle
• Slight reduction in humidity
• Daytime temperatures remaining close to current levels
• No warning for widespread heavy rainfall at present

As a result, residents are unlikely to experience significant relief from the prevailing warm and humid conditions.

Rainfall to Remain Concentrated in Himalayan Region

Weather activity over northern India is expected to remain focused mainly along the Himalayan belt.

Heavy rainfall is forecast for:

• Uttarakhand
• Himachal Pradesh
• Eastern Uttar Pradesh

Meanwhile, Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, western Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan are expected to receive only isolated or scattered rainfall.

Rajasthan Weather Outlook

The monsoon is likely to remain weak across Rajasthan during the coming week.

According to the forecast:

• Most districts are expected to witness dry weather.
• Only isolated locations may receive light rainfall.
• Strong dusty winds may affect parts of western Rajasthan.

The limited rainfall could continue to impact water availability and agricultural activities in several areas.

Eastern and Northeastern India May Receive More Rain

Weather models indicate that eastern and northeastern states are likely to receive comparatively better rainfall over the next few days.

If a new weather system develops over the Bay of Bengal as anticipated, rainfall activity could gradually expand to additional parts of the country, helping improve the overall monsoon performance later in July.
