Transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano has delivered a significant update regarding Youri Tielemans’ impending transfer to Manchester United, with an official announcement expected shortly.

Earlier on Monday, David Ornstein from The Athletic reported that Manchester United were in advanced negotiations to finalise a deal for the Belgian midfielder.

This development followed United’s decision to withdraw from signing Ederson from Atalanta. Although they had reached an agreement with the Serie A side, Michael Carrick’s team eventually backed out after an issue reportedly emerged during the player’s medical examination.

Manchester United have now activated Tielemans’ £35 million release clause. While Aston Villa were reluctant to lose the 29-year-old and made efforts to retain him, including offering a new contract, the player expressed his desire to move to Old Trafford for a new challenge.

Tielemans, who brings extensive Premier League experience and is regarded as one of the most technically proficient midfielders in the league, is expected to sign a five-year deal with the club.

Reports suggested that his medical was imminent, and Romano has now confirmed that the midfielder successfully completed all medical checks without any complications.

The Italian journalist stated, “Youri Tielemans has completed his medical and signs today at Man United.”

He further added, “Understand the agreement will be valid until June 2031, five years. Done and sealed.”

According to Samuel Luckhurst of The Sun, “Tielemans actually started the bulk of his medical on Monday at a Cheshire hospital, where he spent five hours.”

He also mentioned, “Manchester United said at the opening of their new training complex that medicals could be conducted entirely on-site, but the urgency of the Tielemans deal is believed to have prompted the off-site arrangement.”

Manchester United are expected to officially present Tielemans as their second midfield signing of the window, following the earlier arrival of Andrey Santos from Chelsea.

It is understood that the Red Devils intend to bring in at least one more midfielder before shifting their focus to strengthening other areas of the squad.
