If you wish to add or change the email ID linked to your Aadhaar, you no longer need to visit an Aadhaar Seva Kendra. The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has introduced a new feature in the Aadhaar App that allows users to update their email ID from the comfort of their homes.
This facility came into effect on July 1, 2026. Furthermore, UIDAI has decided to offer this service completely free of charge for the initial six months.
What has changed?
Previously, people had to visit an Aadhaar center to add or update their email ID and mobile number in their Aadhaar records. Now, however, this entire process can be completed online via UIDAI's official Aadhaar App.
This change aims to make Aadhaar services more digital, accessible, and convenient, saving people from having to make repeated trips to service centers for minor updates.
No fee until December 31
Typically, updating an email ID in Aadhaar incurred a fee of ₹75. However, UIDAI has currently waived this charge.
If you update your email ID using the Aadhaar App between July 1, 2026, and December 31, 2026, you will not be charged any fee.
Why is it important to link your email ID with Aadhaar?
UIDAI states that linking an email ID with Aadhaar offers users several key benefits:
Important Aadhaar-related information is received directly via email.
Alerts regarding authentication and verification are received.
Communicating with UIDAI becomes easier.
Account recovery and security are enhanced.
The likelihood of missing important Aadhaar updates or notifications is reduced.
How to update your email ID via the Aadhaar App?
If you wish to update your email ID, follow these simple steps:
Download the official Aadhaar App on your mobile, or open it if it is already installed.
Log in by completing the required authentication process.
Select the 'Add/Update Email ID' option. Enter your new email ID.

Submit the request.
Once verification is complete, your new email ID will be linked to your Aadhaar.
