Ederson will not be moving to Manchester United this summer, with Atalanta now preparing to open talks over a contract extension that would keep the Brazilian midfielder in Bergamo.

As reported by Football Italia, the two clubs had reached a verbal agreement on a €45 million transfer package that was expected to take place after the 2026 World Cup. However, the move was called off after concerns emerged during medical examinations.

Ederson initially underwent medical tests in the United States during the World Cup, but Manchester United were not fully satisfied with the results. Consequently, the player travelled to the United Kingdom for additional assessments, which ultimately led to the deal being abandoned.

The 24-year-old midfielder is currently in the final year of his existing Atalanta contract, set to expire in the summer of 2027. The Serie A club plan to meet with his representatives in the coming weeks to discuss fresh terms and secure his long-term commitment.

Atalanta have insisted that Ederson does not have any significant medical or fitness issues and are ready to reintegrate him into Gian Piero Gasperini’s squad ahead of the new season.

Any potential contract renewal would also help strengthen Atalanta’s position in future negotiations should the player attract transfer interest again later this summer or during the January window. Ederson is currently on holiday following his participation with the Brazil national team at the World Cup.
