Manchester United have reached a full agreement to secure the signing of Youri Tielemans from Aston Villa, as confirmed by transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano.
Earlier today, journalist David Ornstein reported that United were in advanced negotiations to sign Tielemans.
Heading into the summer transfer window, strengthening the midfield was United’s top priority. The club had initially agreed on a deal with Atalanta for Ederson, who appeared close to joining.
However, the Red Devils withdrew from that deal last week after conducting further medical assessments. The Brazilian has since departed England and is reportedly disappointed that the move fell through.
Meanwhile, United are preparing to make an official announcement regarding the signing of Andrey Santos from Chelsea.
According to Ornstein, United entered the final phase of discussions with all parties involved to bring in Tielemans, who rejected approaches from other clubs in favour of a move to Old Trafford.
Romano has now confirmed that the deal has been completed.
He stated, “BREAKING: Youri Tielemans to Manchester United, HERE WE GO!”
“United activate €41 million release clause in Tielemans’ Aston Villa contract, and have reached a verbal agreement with the Belgian midfielder.”
“Andrey Santos done + Tielemans next after Éderson deal called off on Friday.”
Ornstein further reported that United successfully attracted Tielemans by triggering his £35 million release clause.
It is understood that Aston Villa were reluctant to sell him, but they were left with no choice after United met the clause and Tielemans expressed a strong desire to play under Michael Carrick.
Ornstein also mentioned that Villa had offered the midfielder a new contract, but their efforts proved unsuccessful.
The experienced Premier League star is expected to undergo his medical examination tomorrow before signing his contract to officially become a Manchester United player.
