West Bengal News Suvendu Adhikari: Since the change of power in West Bengal, the new BJP government has been continuously reversing many important and policy decisions of the previous Trinamool Congress (TMC) government. In this series, Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari has made another big and historic announcement. Now the most talked about and controversial ‘Khela Hobe Diwas’ of the TMC government will not be celebrated in West Bengal. Instead, now every year 16 August will be celebrated as ‘Ayushman Diwas’ in the state. This decision of the government is also very special and symbolic because on this date, 100 days of the tenure of the new BJP government of the state is also being completed. CM Suvendu Adhikari’s announcement in the big meeting of BJP This big political and administrative change came to light after a big organizational meeting of BJP held in Tamluk of East Medinipur district on Sunday. While interacting with the journalists after the meeting, Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari made it clear that now the election slogan of TMC government ‘Khela Hobe’ will be completely removed from the government calendars of the state. Instead, August 16 will be officially notified as ‘Ayushman Day’ to raise awareness and honor the public towards the largest and popular health insurance scheme (Ayushman Bharat) of the Central Government. Why was the date of August 16 chosen? Dark history of ‘Calcutta Killings’ Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari cited not only political reasons behind this change but also the painful history of Bengal. Explaining the significance of the date of 16 August, he said: Great Calcutta Killings: The day of 16 August is a very dark and bloody page in the history of West Bengal, especially Kolkata. On this date in the year 1946, under the leadership of Muslim League and the then Suhrawardy government, ‘Great Calcutta Killings’, the horrific communal riots of Calcutta broke out, in which thousands of innocent people lost their lives. Targeting TMC: Suvendu Adhikari made a strong attack on the previous Mamata government and said that TMC used to scratch its wounds by celebrating ‘Khela Hobe Diwas’ on this very painful and dark day. Our government will celebrate this day by connecting it with people’s service, health and public welfare so that a positive message goes to the society. Health will be celebrated with achievements of 100 days. Coming 16th August is going to prove to be a big milestone for the new government. On this day, the Suvendu government, which came into existence after ousting Mamata Banerjee from power in the assembly elections, will complete 100 days. The government wants to take the celebration of its first 100 days to everyone in the form of ‘Ayushman Diwas’. The Chief Minister said that on this special day, many welfare programs like free medical camps, health check-up and distribution of cards of the Centre’s Ayushman Bharat Scheme will be organized across the state, the detailed outline and list of which will be made public very soon. Focus on the schemes of the Centre: The previous Mamata government has been continuously accused of not allowing the Centre’s excellent health schemes like ‘Ayushman Bharat’ to be implemented in Bengal due to political malice. Now, as soon as Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari assumed power, he has intensified the campaign to take all the schemes of the Center to every home of Bengal.
