Manchester United may once again explore the possibility of signing Brighton midfielder Carlos Baleba this summer, but only if the Seagulls significantly reduce their valuation, according to journalist Pete O’Rourke.
Reports suggest that United had lined up two new midfield signings recently. The club had reached an agreement with Atalanta for Ederson and also finalised a deal to bring in Andrey Santos from Chelsea.
While the move for Santos appears to be progressing smoothly, the Red Devils have decided to pull the plug on the Ederson transfer.
As a result, United are actively searching for another midfield option. Having already monitored Brighton’s Baleba for an extended period, O’Rourke believes the club could return with renewed interest, though only if the terms of a deal become more favourable.
Speaking to Football Insider, O’Rourke explained: “I still think there are midfielders on Manchester United’s radar. They’ll be very pleased to finalise the signing of Andrey Santos. They could revisit a potential move for Carlos Baleba at Brighton, who they were keen on last summer and remains a player of interest.”
He added: “If they get any indication that Brighton might lower their asking price for Baleba, then United could increase their efforts to sign him. Ideally, United were targeting three midfield additions this summer, especially with Casemiro’s departure and Manuel Ugarte now sidelined with a long-term injury, leaving them short in that area.”
According to TEAMtalk, Baleba continues to feature on United’s shortlist. Although Brighton have reportedly cut their asking price to around £70 million, that figure still exceeds United’s current budget.
The club are aiming to recruit players valued closer to £50 million, which aligns with their move for Santos.
Another name under consideration is Bournemouth’s Tyler Adams, who is also believed to be available for around £50 million. United have reportedly made contact with Bournemouth to discuss the possibility of signing the United States international, though it remains uncertain how far they will pursue that option.
Manchester United are undoubtedly intent on bringing in a second midfielder before the transfer window closes, but it remains to be seen which target becomes their primary focus in the coming weeks.
