Serie A club Atalanta had been expecting a substantial financial boost from the potential sale of Ederson to Manchester United. However, the transfer collapsed — reportedly due to medical concerns — significantly affecting the club’s transfer market strategy.

While Newcastle United have also been linked with the Brazilian midfielder, there is now a growing possibility that Ederson could remain with Atalanta.

According to reports from L’Eco di Bergamo, the failed transfer has upended Atalanta’s summer plans. The negotiations with Manchester United had stretched over a month, and the breakdown of the deal is seen as a major setback for La Dea.

As a result, Atalanta’s priorities have shifted. With Ederson staying, the club will have one less need in midfield, but this could also open the door for other prominent players to leave Bergamo during this transfer window.

Talks have already taken place between Atalanta and Ederson’s representatives over a possible contract renewal. His current deal runs until 2027, but the club now intends to keep him as a central figure in their first-team plans while securing his future for the long term.
