Hyundai once used to rank second in sales in the Indian market. Of late, it has slipped to the fourth position in overall sales. The Korean carmaker is plotting a strong comeback. It is known to be working on a strong product offensive, a large part of which will launch in the next 18 months. Here is a closer look at what’s coming.

Let’s start from the affordable side of things. Hyundai is preparing a small, affordable electric SUV that will sit below the Creta Electric when launched. It will compete with models like the Tata Punch.EV when launched. This product is currently codenamed HE1i and has already been spotted testing in India. This signals that the launch may not be too far away. It is, in fact, expected to be out sometime this calendar year.

The HE1i will have a boxy design with split headlamps, roof rails, and aero-optimised alloy wheels. It will be small but have a rugged appearance overall. Hyundai will base this EV on the E-GMP (K) platform. Two battery packs will most likely be offered- 42 kWh and 49 kWh. Power output is likely to be around 97 bhp and 115 bhp, respectively. These batteries will likely have claimed range figures of 300 to 350 km.

The HE1i electric SUV will have features like dual 10.25-inch screens, ventilated seats, wireless charging, sunroof, 360-degree camera, and more. Pricing could fall in the Rs 10-15 lakh bracket.

The Bayon is another expected launch. Expected to be out in late 2026 or early 2027, it will slot between the Venue and Creta in Hyundai’s domestic lineup. It will likely measure around 4.2 metres in length and will have a modern, SUV-like design.

This SUV will have a modern, tech-packed cabin. It will come with features like dual 12.3-inch displays, wireless smartphone connectivity, over-the-air updates, connected car features and more.

Engine options are likely to include a 1.2-litre turbo-petrol and a 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine. The former will be hybrid-ready. We may see a strong hybrid version rolling out in the future. Maruti Fronx will be the Bayon’s primary rival when launched.

The Creta is Hyundai’s strongest product in the Indian market. It will get a full generational update in early 2027. The next-generation Creta will feature fresh styling. This will likely be influenced by the Hyundai Crater concept. It will have a tall stance and boxy, SUV-ish design. Test mules have already been spotted in India and abroad, revealing various features of the same. It will have connected LED daytime running lights, pixel-style tail lamps, and likely stronger body cladding.

The new Creta will move to Hyundai’s K3 platform. This is the same architecture that underpins the second-generation Kia Seltos. Inside, expect a new dashboard layout, better trims and upholstery and a longer line of features than the outgoing model. The new Creta will get Hyundai’s latest Pleos Connect system and a new steering wheel with the four-dot Hyundai logo.

Engine options will largely remain the same, including the 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol, 1.5-litre turbo-petrol, and 1.5-litre diesel units. Hyundai is also expected to introduce a 1.5-litre petrol-based strong hybrid version later.

The new Creta will have to compete with a long line of mid-size SUVs. These will include the Tata Sierra, Maruti Victoris, Grand Vitara, Toyota Hyryder, Kia Seltos, Honda Elevate, Skoda Kushaq, Volkswagen Taigun, Renault Duster, Nissan Tekton, and others.

Hyundai will also launch the fourth-generation i20 in India, sometime in 2027. It has already been revealed in markets like Brazil. The new-generation hatchback will have a sharper and more modern design, and a refreshed cabin. It will get features like 12.3-inch screens, a redesigned steering wheel, connected car technology, over-the-air updates, wireless charging, and more.

The new i20 will be underpinned by the K3 platform and will likely retain the current model’s powertrains in India- 1.2L naturally aspirated petrol and 1.0L turbo-petrol. The hatchback will continue to compete with the likes of Maruti Suzuki Baleno and Tata Altroz.

Expected to arrive in 2027 is a new three-row SUV that will effectively replace the Tucson in Hyundai’s domestic lineup. Internally known as Ni1i, this model will have a roomy cabin and will measure over 4.7 metres in length. Both six and seven seater versions are likely to be offered. Details of the design remain sparse. It is likely to align with the company’s latest styling direction. It will also come with a feature-rich cabin and will be powered by a newly developed 1.5L strong hybrid powertrain. Hyundai will manufacture this vehicle at its Talegaon factory.
