New Delhi. Congress has launched a scathing attack on the alleged theft of donations/offerings in Ayodhya Ram temple. Calling it a “planned loot”, the party has demanded Prime Minister Narendra Modi to break his silence.
Congress Working Committee member, senior All India Congress Committee spokesperson and Rajya Sabha MP Abhishek Manu Singhvi said the loot of Ram Temple donations was not a “small mistake” but a well-planned and organized loot. This robbery continued in front of CCTV cameras for months, but no one paid attention.
He said that the theft of donations has harmed the sanctity of the Ram temple. Singhvi asked, “How will BJP’s Ravana show his face in front of Lord Ram?” He demanded a forensic audit of the Ram Temple loot and said that the matter that has come to light is just a small glimpse.
Major statements given in the press conference
Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee President Devendra Yadav and General Secretary (Organization) and Chairman of Communication Department in the press conference organized at DPCC office located at Rajiv Bhawan. Anil Bhardwaj Singhvi said, “The real question is not who stole, but who allowed them to do so.”
Singhvi called it an insult to faith and a betrayal of the trust of crores of devotees. He raised questions on Champat Rai, former general secretary of Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust. Expressed surprise that his name did not appear in the SIT report, while eight lower level employees have been arrested.
Key Points:
- According to the SIT report, 70 incidents of theft took place from the donation counting room from 27 April to 5 June 2026 (only 40 days).
- Trust Treasurer Govind Giri had mentioned the care of Champat Rai.
- There were strict provisions in the MoU and SOPs between the Trust and SBI, yet the robbery took place.
Making an emotional appeal, Singhvi said that this is theft of small donations from a mother or a labourer, which is theft of trust and faith.
Congress questions
Congress Party wants to know:
- When will the Prime Minister break his silence on this issue?
- How can big officials including Champat Rai, Anil Mishra, Govind Dev Giri escape accountability?
- When the entire trust is under suspicion, why take action only on the lower employees?
- Is the ‘double engine’ BJP government saving the culprits?
- Is the central government afraid of the truth coming out?
- If everything was transparent then why were there resignations?
- Why haven’t large scale arrests been made till now?
Devendra Yadav said that Ram temple is the center of faith of crores of devotees. PM Modi’s silence is a betrayal of the devotees. He compared Nehru by giving the example of the Shrinath Temple case of 1958. Anil Bhardwaj alleged that efforts are being made to suppress the matter to save big people.
