The final quarter-final encounter of the tournament is scheduled for Saturday, featuring the reigning World Cup champions Argentina against European underdogs Switzerland.

As the World Cup reaches its decisive stages, this match will determine which team advances to the semi-finals. The victor will go on to face either England or Norway in the semi-final match set to take place in Atlanta on July 15.

This will be the second of two fixtures on Saturday, with the game being hosted at Kasas City Stadium. Kick-off is scheduled for 2am UK time.

The referee appointed for this crucial tie is Portuguese official Joao Pinheiro.

At 38 years old, this marks Pinheiro’s third assignment at the World Cup, which also happens to be his first appearance at a major international tournament. His most recent match was Canada’s 1-0 victory over South Africa. Prior to that, he officiated Switzerland’s unusual 4-1 win over Bosnia and Herzegovina, where the Swiss side did not find the net until the 74th minute.

During that encounter, Pinheiro issued a straight red card to Bosnian defender Tarik Muharemovic for denying an obvious goal-scoring opportunity with ten minutes remaining, sparking a late surge of goals from Switzerland.

Assisting Pinheiro on the sidelines will be fellow Portuguese officials Bruno Jesus and Luciano Maia, while Canadian referee Drew Fischer has been designated as the fourth official for the match.
