INEOS Sell-On Clause to Bring Manchester United Up to €20m from Greenwood’s Transfer to Fenerbahçe

Manchester United are set to earn between €16 million and €20 million from Mason Greenwood’s imminent transfer to Fenerbahçe this summer. The move is awaiting only Marseille’s final approval to complete what has become a complex five-club agreement that is otherwise ready to conclude.

As per The Peoples Person, journalist Erdem Akbaş from A Spor reported on Thursday that Manchester United have already finalised their part of the paperwork. The Turkish side are now working to a 17 July deadline to complete the formalities of the transfer.

When United sold Greenwood permanently to Marseille in the summer of 2024, INEOS included a sell-on clause estimated to be around 40–50%. At the time, it appeared to be a routine contractual inclusion, but it is now proving to be a highly rewarding decision. The 24-year-old forward scored 26 goals and provided 11 assists in 45 appearances for Marseille during the 2025/26 season, performances that have caught the eye of several major European clubs and significantly increased his market valuation beyond what Marseille initially paid.

United had already moved Greenwood off their books once before—sending him on loan to Getafe for the 2023/24 campaign—before the French club completed a permanent deal. The inclusion of such a lucrative sell-on clause now looks like one of INEOS’s most astute transfer arrangements in recent years.

United’s financial motivation for the deal is clear. The club’s priority in the current transfer window is strengthening the midfield, with Atalanta’s Ederson identified as the main target to succeed Casemiro. Additionally, Andrey Santos has already joined from Chelsea to bolster squad depth. The recent ACL injury suffered by Manuel Ugarte during the World Cup has further underscored the urgency of these reinforcements. The revenue generated from Greenwood’s move will provide INEOS with valuable flexibility to pursue these objectives without being forced to depend solely on additional player sales.

The five-way structure of the deal—which includes Marseille, Manchester United, Getafe, Fenerbahçe, and Greenwood himself—is already administratively complete from United’s side. Once Marseille provide their signature, the transfer will be officially announced.
