India and New Zealand have taken their relations to a new level. During the visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to New Zealand, both the countries started “Strategic Partnership”. This visit was the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister in the last 40 years, in which both the countries have prepared a special roadmap for 2030.
New goal of trade and investment
Both the countries have decided that mutual trade will be increased to 7 billion New Zealand dollars by 2030. For this, a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) has been signed, due to which the tax on goods coming from New Zealand to India will be significantly reduced.
Consensus on security and technology
Apart from trade, now both the countries will work together in areas like defence, maritime security, fight against terrorism and technology. A special agreement has been made to strengthen maritime security so that peace and stability is maintained in the Indo-Pacific region.
Cooperation between the two countries will also be increased on subjects like agriculture, climate change, digital transformation and science. New Zealand has supported India’s claim for permanent membership of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC). Prime Minister Modi has talked about new energy and determination in this relationship.
