Nearly 1,200 premium tickets for the World Cup final, scheduled for 19 July at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, have been unexpectedly released by FIFA on Friday.

The governing body’s late-stage ticketing platform, which had previously shown the match as sold out, now lists 1,178 Category 2 seats priced at $7,380 each.

These tickets are spread across five upper-deck sections along the sidelines, including 282 in section 344, 299 in section 343, 139 in section 335, 443 in section 334, and 15 in section 333.

For fans seeking a more exclusive experience, FIFA has also made available 68 front-row Category 1 seats in the lower tier, with prices ranging from $19,995 to $32,970.

Additionally, hospitality packages in the Trophy Lounge and Trophy Lounge+ areas — which include food and beverages — are being offered at $34,500 and $32,500 respectively.

FIFA has not yet provided an explanation for the sudden release of these additional tickets.

The World Cup final will be held at the New York New Jersey Stadium on 19 July.

Beyond the final, tickets for Saturday’s quarterfinal clash between Argentina and Switzerland at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri, are also available, priced between $1,600 and $3,995.

On FIFA’s official resale marketplace, tickets for the final are currently listed from $7,440.50 to an eye-watering $11,499,998.85.

France advanced one step closer to the tournament’s showpiece event on Thursday after defeating Morocco 2-0 in their quarterfinal encounter in Boston. Goals from Kylian Mbappe and Ousmane Dembele secured the 2018 champions a place in the semifinals.

Les Bleus will meet either Spain or Belgium next Tuesday, with the two European sides facing off in their own quarterfinal on Friday evening.

On the opposite side of the draw, England are set to face Erling Haaland’s Norway on Saturday in Miami for a place in the semifinals.

The remaining quarterfinal will see Lionel Messi’s Argentina take on Switzerland. The defending champions remain in contention to retain their title but have endured tough challenges in recent rounds.

Argentina were pushed into extra time by Cape Verde in the Round of 32 and had to overturn a two-goal deficit to defeat Egypt in the Round of 16.
