Andrey Santos is on the verge of being officially unveiled as a Manchester United player.
The Red Devils finalised the agreement on Wednesday, bringing the Brazilian midfielder from Chelsea. The deal is worth fifty million pounds — forty-eight million guaranteed plus two million in potential add-ons. Chelsea approved the move after also negotiating a ten per cent sell-on clause.
On Thursday, Santos completed his medical tests at Carrington, with reports indicating that he passed without any issues.
The 22-year-old has since signed a five-year contract with an option for an additional year. While there has already been plenty of discussion about the young Brazilian, it is the reaction from his home country’s media that will particularly excite United supporters.
Gazeta do Paraná described him as, “arriving at Manchester United as one of the most promising Brazilian footballers currently playing in Europe.”
Super Vasco emphasised the expectations surrounding his move, stating: “Andrey arrives in Manchester surrounded by high expectations to take over the starting position and the spot left by fellow Brazilian Casemiro.”
Trivela also positioned Santos as Casemiro’s natural successor, writing: “Given his previously chosen replacement for Casemiro and his high quality, Andrey arrives at Manchester United as a potential midfield protagonist.”
The outlet further suggested that Santos could adapt quickly to his new surroundings, though it noted that his arrival, alongside Ederson’s, might create competition for Kobbie Mainoo: “One of the situations to be addressed is the possible addition of Bruno Fernandes and another player, theoretically Ederson or Kobbie Mainoo. If this is the midfield, entirely Portuguese-speaking, it’s possible to say there’s a clear balance of characteristics.
“While Andrey tends to be the positional organiser, Ederson will be vital for pressing and covering long distances. Finally, Bruno is the decision-maker, one of the best in the world last season. A promising trio.”
Expectations are high for what Santos can deliver at Old Trafford.
United fans hope the Brazilian will bring renewed defensive resilience to the team’s midfield, using his strong tackling, aerial ability, and intelligent short passing to dictate play and control transitions.
His determination and potential are precisely what INEOS were betting on when they sanctioned the transfer. Santos is expected to get the regular game time he has been seeking, and he could soon become a consistent starter alongside Mainoo.
Together, the duo could provide long-term stability at the heart of the midfield for the twenty-time English champions.
