Volkswagen had recently released an official teaser for the lower-spec variant of the recently launched Tayron SUV. The SUV has now been officially launched at Rs 41.99 lakh, ex-showroom. This is actually Rs 5 lakh cheaper than the Tayron R-Line, which was already on sale. Volkswagen is calling this variant Tayron Life. In terms of looks, you can clearly differentiate between both versions. The R-Line version gets much more aggressive and sporty styling, while the non-R-Line version gets much more sober, family SUV-like elements.
Commenting on the launch, Mr. Nitin Kohli, Brand Director, Volkswagen Passenger Cars India, said, “The Tayron Life reflects our commitment to introduce global products that resonate with Indian customers. In line with our plans, we are introducing the 3rd product action forthis year, with Tayron Life that is locally assembled. With its spacious layout, premium comfort, advanced technology including Level 2 ADAS and signature German engineering. It strengthens our premium SUV portfolio while delivering a compelling proposition centred around performance, space, comfort and driving confidence.”
The Volkswagen Tayron non-R-Line version looks the same as the version on sale, except for a few cosmetic changes. The dimensions are slightly different from the R-Line, mostly because of the difference in styling. The other major difference between the two is that R-Line is a 7-seater while the newly launched Life trim is available as a 5-seater. The front fascia of the SUV looks the same as the R-Line. It comes with sleek-looking all-LED headlamps with dual-function LED DRLs. There is a connecting LED bar, which has now become a common sight on many modern Volkswagens. The SUV also gets an illuminated Volkswagen logo at the front.
The bumper of the Tayron is where you start noticing the differences. The SUV gets a revised bumper with a very wide lower air dam. There are air curtains on either side of the bumper, and we see a D-shaped air dam with gloss black elements. Below that, we see a silver-coloured faux skid plate and a smaller bumper lip for a sporty look.

The side profile of the Tayron stays the same, with pull-type door handles, black cladding around the wheel arches and the lower part of the doors. The alloy wheel design on the Tayron is also different. It is a dual-tone 18-inch unit, but the design is less aggressive when compared to the R-Line.
At the rear, Volkswagen is offering a much cleaner-looking design. The LED tail lamps, connecting LED bar and the illuminated logo have been retained, but the rear bumper has been redesigned, and we also see Tayron badging on the tailgate. There is an integrated spoiler and a shark-fin antenna on the SUV.
The interior of the Tayron gets the same design as the R-Line. The only difference is the missing R-Line branding on the seats and other panels. The SUV comes with features like a 15-inch touchscreen, leatherette upholstery, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, a panoramic sunroof, three-zone climate control, powered and ventilated front seats, a 360-degree camera, massage function for front seats, 9 airbags and Level 2 ADAS. As this is a 5-seater the Tayron Life gets a boot space of 885 litres and it is expandable to 2,090 litres
The SUV uses the same 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine as the R-Line version. The engine generates 204 PS and 320 Nm of torque. It is mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, and the power is sent to all four wheels.
The Volkswagen Tayron non-R-Line variant will rival the likes of the Skoda Kodiaq and Jeep Meridian in the segment. Like the R-Line version, the standard model will also be assembled at Volkswagen’s manufacturing facility in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Maharashtra.
