- The Trinamool Congress (TMC) party is currently in a precarious position
- There are talks that Mahua Moitra is also going to leave the party and join the BJP
- 26 million people in Bengal voted in the assembly elections held a month ago
Mahua Moitra on BJP: Mamata Banerjee’s Trinamool Congress (TMC), which has been in power in West Bengal for the past 15 years, is currently in a precarious position. In the recently held state assembly elections, the TMC suffered a crushing defeat at the hands of Suvendu Adhikari-led Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). After this defeat, there is a big split in the party from the state level to the center level. Many TMC MLAs and MPs have parted ways with the party. Many senior leaders of the party have left TMC and joined BJP.
In the wake of this split in the TMC, talks have started that the party’s MP Mahua Moitra will also leave the party and join the BJP. MP Mahua Moitra has recently reacted strongly to these discussions and put an end to the discussions. “Even if my head is cut off, I will not join the BJP,” he has replied in rotten words.

There is a split in the party, not the collapse of the party: Moitra
Reacting to Trinamool Congress MLAs, MPs and several other leaders leaving the party, Moitra said, “It can be called a split in Trinamool Congress, not the downfall of the party. TMC is the same party which was voted by 26 million people in Bengal in the assembly elections held a month ago. We got 41 percent support from the people of Bengal. Put in perspective, it is half the population of Denmark.” Now the question is, how many people have left the party since then? 20 MPs, 65 MLAs, let’s say 10 mayors and about 100 others… that means roughly 200-250 people have resigned or left the party.
“Only a select few have left the party,” said Mahua Moitra.
Mahua Moitra said that it can be said that those who left the TMC joined the BJP either because of the lure of money or fear of punishment. “But a party that has got 26 million votes doesn’t collapse just because 200-250 people leave the party to save their lives.” I would not call it the downfall of the party, especially Mamata Banerjee’s party, which was built on the charisma of Mamata Banerjee and the hard work and blood of party workers. The party was never built on the strength of middle-level leaders.
‘BJP-RSS played with people’s emotions’
Mahua Moitra said, “No amount of money can buy me. You cut my head, I will sacrifice it, but I will not join the BJP. You are either a survivor or a sellout. The BJP speaks for Hindus, and today, by robbing the Ram temple itself from Hindus, they have played with people’s emotions.” Mahua Moitra further said that those who became MPs in the name of TMC and later left the party, are not even in a position to get the votes of their families.
