Weather Update: Monsoon active across the country; ‘Red alert’ of heavy rain and storm in 18 states including Delhi-UP, hail will fall in some cities

Monsoon has officially covered the entire country on Thursday (July 9, 2026). With this, heavy rains have started in almost all the states of the country. According to Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) data, much more than normal rainfall has been recorded in Dadra-Nagar Haveli, Daman-Diu, Andaman-Nicobar, Ladakh and Tamil Nadu. Apart from this, monsoon has also been kind in Sikkim, Odisha, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Maharashtra. At the same time, the states of North-East India (Manipur, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland) and Bihar have received less than normal rainfall in the initial phase. Meanwhile, IMD has issued a weather bulletin for the next 48 hours and has issued an alert of heavy rain, lightning and severe thunderstorm in 18 states of the country including Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. According to meteorologists, at present two major weather systems are active simultaneously in the country: Low Pressure Area: A very clear low-pressure area is formed over north-western Madhya Pradesh and adjacent south-western Uttar Pradesh, which is drawing heavy moisture from the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal. Monsoon Trough: The Trough Line of Monsoon is currently extending from North Rajasthan to Northeast India, due to which there is heavy accumulation of clouds in Central and North India. Warning of storm and hailstorm with a speed of 85 KM in these 18 states. The Meteorological Department has issued a special warning for 18 states of the country on Friday (July 10). These states include Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Delhi, Haryana, Rajasthan, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Odisha, Assam, Meghalaya, Maharashtra and Kerala. Storm speed: During the rains in these states, destructive storms can blow at a speed of 80 to 85 kilometers per hour. Hailstorm alert: IMD has issued an alert saying that hailstorm may also occur along with heavy rain in some areas of Bihar, Delhi, Haryana, Rajasthan and Uttarakhand. There is also a huge danger of lightning in eastern India. Detailed weather condition of major states and metros 1. Delhi-NCR (Delhi Weather) 95% rain is forecast in the capital Delhi on Friday. IMD has issued an ‘Orange Alert’ of storm with heavy rain and thunder in the areas of Delhi and NCR. During this period, winds will blow at a speed of 70 km/hour. Temperature: The maximum temperature on Friday is expected to be 33°C and the minimum temperature is expected to be 27°C. Where and how much rain occurred: In the last 24 hours, the maximum rainfall of 6.3 inches (160 mm) was recorded in Delhi’s Tukhmirpur (North-East Delhi). Apart from this, 103 mm rainfall has been recorded in Mayur Vihar, 90 mm in Delhi University, 86 mm in Mehrauli and 72.6 mm in Safdarjung. 2. Uttar Pradesh (UP Weather) There is an alert of heavy rains with cyclonic winds in most parts of UP. There is a warning of storm and heavy rain with a speed of 80 km/hour in Meerut, Gautam Buddha Nagar (Noida), Muzaffarnagar, Aligarh, Mathura, Agra, Kanpur, Banda, Bijnor, Pilibhit, Moradabad, Bareilly, Bahraich, Sitapur, Balrampur, Kushinagar, Hardoi, Ayodhya, Unnao, Sultanpur, Amethi and Azamgarh. Special Note (Lucknow): The weather in the capital Lucknow will be opposite on Friday. The sky is expected to be clear in Lucknow, where the maximum temperature can be up to 33°C and the minimum temperature can be up to 28°C. 3. Bihar Weather: Bihar may witness an orgy of lightning on 10th and 11th July. There is an alert of heavy rain in Gaya, East Champaran, West Champaran, Patna, Saran, Buxar, Bhojpur, Vaishali, Muzaffarpur, Samastipur, Darbhanga, Madhubani, Saharsa, Supaul, Bhagalpur, Katihar and Kishanganj. Temperature: There will be relief from humidity due to rain in Patna. The maximum temperature here will be around 31°C and the minimum temperature will be around 28°C. 4. Jharkhand (Jharkhand Weather) A warning of heavy rain with winds blowing at a speed of 60 to 70 km/hour has been issued in Hazaribagh, Ramgarh, Jamtara, Bokaro, Ranchi, Simdega, Giridih, Seraikela, Dumka, Gumla, Khunti, Dhanbad, Deoghar and Jamshedpur in Jharkhand. The maximum temperature in Ranchi will drop to 28°C and the minimum temperature will fall to 24°C. 5. West Bengal Weather: Jhargram, Bankura, Purulia, Alipurduar, Nadia, Malda, Hooghly, Cooch Behar and Kalimpong may receive heavy showers with thunderstorms on Friday and Saturday. The maximum temperature in Kolkata is expected to be 32°C and the minimum temperature will be 28°C. 6. Uttarakhand Weather: Warning of landslides and heavy rain has been issued in Haridwar, Nainital, Rishikesh, Almora, Champawat, Pauri Garhwal, Uttarkashi, Bageshwar and Tehri Garhwal of the hill state Uttarakhand. The weather will be cold in the capital Dehradun, where the maximum temperature is expected to be 26°C and the minimum temperature is expected to be 23°C.
