Manchester United consider Manu Kone as backup option if Ederson transfer collapses

Manchester United have reportedly reached an agreement with Chelsea for the signing of midfielder Andrey Santos.

The 22-year-old Brazilian is set to undergo medical examinations soon, paving the way for his move to Old Trafford as United’s latest addition in midfield.

There remains some uncertainty over whether Santos will be the club’s first or second midfield signing of the summer, primarily due to Ederson’s ongoing fitness concerns.

Before the start of the World Cup, United and Atalanta had agreed on a transfer fee for Ederson. However, the Brazilian’s move was put on hold after he received a late call-up to Carlo Ancelotti’s national squad.

Reports have since surfaced suggesting that initial medical evaluations raised some red flags. On Wednesday, journalist Ben Jacobs stated that United plan to “conduct thorough medical exams on Ederson before determining whether to proceed with a €45 million deal.”

Jacobs further revealed United’s contingency plan in case Ederson’s medical results fail to satisfy the club’s recruitment department.

Speaking to The United Stand, Jacobs disclosed that the Red Devils have made enquiries about AS Roma’s dynamic midfielder, Manu Kone.

“If the Ederson deal falls through, that COULD be revisited by United,” Jacobs commented.

Much like Ederson, Kone was one of the most physically dominant midfielders in Serie A last season.

Standing at 6’1”, the Frenchman combines strength with technical precision, using his excellent close control to advance the ball effectively upfield.

Kone is currently representing France at the World Cup in North America, where he has been enjoying a strong campaign.

Earlier today, The Peoples Person reported that United have been informed of Kone’s desire to challenge himself in the Premier League, with Roma open to selling him for the right offer. The 25-year-old is said to be “very keen” on joining Manchester United.
