2000 Rupee Note: After demonetization in 2016, the government introduced a new 2000 rupee note, which was discontinued shortly after. However, many people still have this note. Let's find out what can be done with it now.
If you have a 2000 rupee note, it will not go to waste.
RBI Guidelines on 2000 Rupee Note: When demonetization occurred in 2016, the government quickly discontinued all old notes. After that, new notes of 100, 200, 500, and 2000 began to enter the market. Of these, 100, 200, and 500 notes are still in circulation. However, 2000 rupee notes have been discontinued and withdrawn from circulation. Nevertheless, many people still hold 2000 rupee notes.
The 2000 rupee note will no longer be accepted in the market!
A few years after demonetization, the government also discontinued the 2000 rupee note. But many people still have these notes sitting in their safes. However, these notes are now useless because no one is accepting them in the market, so what will happen to these notes now? Will they deteriorate while lying around? No, that's not the case at all. The RBI itself has suggested a method for this.
What should I do with a 2,000 rupee note?
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) recently shared a post on its official Twitter account, "X." The post states that if you have a 2,000 rupee note, you can exchange it at your bank. The post reads, "If you still have a 2,000 rupee note, this information is for you."
- The Rs 2,000 note is still fully valid (legal tender).
- You can change it by visiting any of the 19 issue offices of the RBI.
- If you cannot go there, you can send the note to any RBI issue office through India Post and get the amount deposited in your bank account.
Further in the post, the bank urged people to stay tuned to RBI updates for any such information, and to consult the RBI website for more details.
So, if you still have a 2,000 rupee note that is useless, you can easily exchange it with the RBI.
