Mohammad Kaif has encouraged Tilak Varma to step up his game against spinners, pointing out that the left-handed batsman has been having a tough time not just rotating the strike, but also finding the boundary. 

Tilak, who recently took on the role of vice-captain for India's tour of the UK, has managed to score only 37 runs across three innings in the ongoing five-match T20I series against England. Kaif expressed his surprise at the Mumbai Indians player’s difficulties against spin, especially considering he’s an Indian batsman. 

“He really needs to improve his ability against spin. I'm honestly surprised that an Indian batter struggles so much against spin. Forget hitting boundaries, he isn't even able to rotate the strike. Many players who can't attack spin at least take singles and doubles to keep the scoreboard moving. Tilak isn't even doing that," Kaif said during a discussion on his YouTube channel.

In the third T20I, Tilak struggled, scoring just three runs off 11 balls before being stumped by Will Jacks' off-spin. Kaif mentioned that his inability to rotate the strike is adding unnecessary pressure, which ultimately leads to his downfall.

He observed that Tilak seems to compensate for the dot balls he faces against spinners by going after the fast bowlers later in the innings. However, Kaif cautioned that this strategy is quite risky; if Tilak fails to accelerate against the pacers in some matches, those dot balls against spinners could come back to haunt India. 

With India facing the prospect of back-to-back T20I series losses after dropping two of the first three matches against England, the series currently stands at 2-0 in favor of England, with two more games left to play. The fourth T20I is set to take place at the County Ground in Bristol on Thursday, July 9. 

Tilak Varma will be looking to tackle his spin issues head-on as India fights to keep their series hopes alive. A solid performance in the fourth T20I is essential for maintaining India's chances.
