Actor Rajesh Sharma, best known for his role in the web series Paatal Lok, has been admitted to a private hospital in Kolkata after reportedly suffering a suspected insect bite during the shooting of Fauji, starring Prabhas, at Ramoji Film City.

Actor Sudipa Chatterjee issued a statement on behalf of Sharma's family: "Actor Rajesh Sharma reportedly suffered an insect bite-possibly from a bug or a poisonous spider while shooting at Ramoji Film City for a film starring renowned actor Prabhas. After pack-up, Rajesh was chatting with local technicians in an area surrounded by dense vegetation when he felt an insect bite. As it did not seem serious at the time, he continued without seeking immediate medical attention.”

However, nearly six hours later, Sharma began experiencing intense pain in his right leg and his health started deteriorating. “Despite his worsening condition, he boarded a flight back to Kolkata. During the journey, he developed a high fever, became increasingly restless, and his health deteriorated further. The following day, he was admitted to Manipal Hospital, Dhakuria,” the statement read. It further added, “More than a day has passed since his hospitalisation but he suffers from high fever, breathlessness and a progressing infection in his right leg.”

Chatterjee also shared an update on his medical condition, citing Dr Avijit Bhattacharya. “The infection has spread from his toes up to his knee, with large blisters developing over the affected area. According to Dr Avijit Bhattacharya, it is too early to make any definite assessment. Rajesh remains under close observation and is not yet out of danger,” the statement said. It further added, “Doctors are monitoring him carefully, as there is concern that complications could lead to the formation of a blood clot, which, if it travels to the lungs, could become life-threatening.”

She concluded by thanking the Bengal Motion Pictures Artists’ Forum, Sharma’s friends and well-wishers, and Prosenjit Chatterjee for their support. “On behalf of Rajesh Sharma’s mother and the entire family, we express our heartfelt gratitude to everyone who has stood by us,” it read.

Following the incident, the All Indian Cine Workers Association (AICWA) called for an immediate and transparent investigation into the circumstances surrounding the actor's medical emergency.

In a statement posted on X, AICWA urged Telangana CM Revanth Reddy to order a high-level inquiry into the incident. The association also demanded that the producers of the film cover Sharma's medical expenses and sought strict legal action if negligence is found.

AICWA President Suresh Shyamlal Gupta raised concerns about whether proper emergency medical procedures were followed on the film set. The organisation questioned why the actor was reportedly not admitted immediately to a major hospital in Hyderabad if his condition had become serious.

The association also sought clarity on whether adequate emergency medical support was available at the shooting location, if mandatory workplace safety and health protocols were in place, and what circumstances led to the rapid deterioration of Sharma's condition.

Calling for accountability, AICWA said the investigation should determine the exact cause of the medical emergency, examine compliance with workplace safety standards, and identify any lapses by the producer, production house, or other responsible authorities.

The organisation added that if negligence is established, strict legal action should be taken against those responsible, stressing that no production house or individual should be exempt from accountability regardless of the project's scale.
