Bengaluru: After several days of heavy rainfall across Karnataka’s coastal and Malnad regions, the weather is expected to improve soon, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
IMD scientist Dr Latha said widespread heavy rain is likely to continue across the state for only the next two days. After that, rainfall is expected to reduce considerably, with dry weather likely to return in many areas from July 11.
For the next 24 hours, an Orange Alert has been issued for seven districts—Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, Uttara Kannada, Shivamogga, Hassan, Chikkamagaluru and Kodagu—where heavy to very heavy rainfall is forecast.
A Yellow Alert has also been issued for Belagavi district, where heavy showers are expected.
The weather department has also warned of strong winds of 40 to 50 kmph along the Karnataka coast. Fishermen and people heading to the sea have been advised to exercise caution due to rough weather conditions.
On July 10, the Yellow Alert will remain in force only for the coastal and ghat regions. However, from July 11 onwards, rainfall is expected to decline significantly across most parts of the state, bringing a spell of drier weather.
Dr Latha also said that Bengaluru, along with several districts in south and north interior Karnataka, is not expected to receive significant rainfall during this period.
