McLaren has continued to evolve its long-standing 720S platform, taking it to impressive new heights. Nearly nine years after the original version earned the Performance Car of the Year title, the model survives today in an updated form known as the 750S, following a brief detour with the limited-edition 765LT. However, development isn’t over yet. According to two new teaser clips released this week, McLaren appears to have another high-performance supercar in this lineage ready to make its debut.

The first teaser, released on Tuesday, showcased the 720S, 750S, and 765LT before concluding with the phrase “legacy demands more.” That line strongly hints at a successor to the 765LT—one likely positioned above the higher-production 750S. However, the teaser didn’t reveal any technical details or specifications about the upcoming car.

Fortunately, McLaren dropped a second teaser on Wednesday, offering a few more visual clues.

This time, the glimpse revealed a massive rear wing, extensive exposed carbon fibre bodywork, and a quad-exit exhaust setup reminiscent of the 765LT. Most notably, the teaser confirmed the car’s name: 788HS. Based on McLaren’s past naming conventions, the number 788 likely corresponds to a power output of 788 PS (around 777 hp), while the ‘S’ suffix suggests a standard body style rather than the extended “Longtail” design used on the 765LT. The inclusion of the letter ‘H’ is particularly intriguing—it could hint at hybrid technology similar to that found in the P1 and Artura, or perhaps signify the 720S platform’s evolution into hypercar territory. The exact meaning, however, remains uncertain.

Whatever the upcoming 788HS has in store, more details are expected imminently. McLaren has confirmed that the car’s official reveal will take place tomorrow morning, UK time, indicating that a full unveiling is now less than a day away.
