Shah Rukh Khan’s ‘King’ his most expensive film yet?

Shah Rukh Khan’s upcoming film King is reportedly the most expensive project of his career, though the director has something to say about that.

According to a report by Bollywood Hungama, King has been mounted on a budget of around Rs 450 crore, not counting print and publicity costs or SRK’s acting fee.

If accurate, that would make it bigger than both Jawanwhich reportedly cost around Rs 400 crore, and Pathanestimated at Rs 350 crore.

The film went on floors in May 2025 and has been shooting for over 150 days across multiple international locations, with filming expected to wrap by August 2026.

It features large-scale action sequences put together by international stunt teams, with VFX being handled by the 60-year-old star’s own production house, Red Chillies Entertainment.

A source told the portal that the film grew beyond its original scope.

“Shah Rukh Khan always believes in delivering an uncompromised product to the audience. King started-off as an action thriller, but the ambition of SRK and Sid have made it a tentpole action thriller, with some of the biggest action sequences that the audience will get to witness on the spectacle,” the source said.

it added “All the money spent is to ensure an uncompromised cinematic experience to the audience. You will see every penny spent by the makers on the screen, as it’s a new Shah Rukh Khan experience.”

But director Siddharth Anand is not having it. Shortly after the report went live, he posted just one word on X, “False.”

He didn’t elaborate, but fans and industry watchers are pretty convinced he was referring to the budget claims.

King marks the the Kal Ho Naa Ho actor’s return to the big screen after three years.

The film reportedly stars Deepika Padukone, Rani Mukerji, Abhishek Bachchan, Suhana Khan, Arshad Warsi, Jaideep Ahlawat and Raghav Juyal among others.
